Characteristics
- Insect: Three part body (head/thorax /abdomen) and 6 legs
- Dorso-ventrally flattened
- Have wings
- They can grow up to 30 mm in size
- Concealed proboscis
- Undergo hemimetabolous development
- No specific host
- All stages are blood feeder
- The most important species are Triatoma infestans, T. dimidiata, Rhodnius prolixus, and Panstrongylus megistus
- primarily found in Central and South America and the southernmost regions of North America
